Designed by British knifemaker Mike Read, Spyderco’s PITS Folder is a supremely functional non-locking folding knife intended for serious use. Drawing its name from Read’s Internet forum name—“Pie in the Sky”—the latest expression of this unique design features a handle constructed from meticulously machined solid titanium scales that are bead blasted to a matte finish and then color anodized a stunning blue hue. Skeletonized to reduce weight, the scales also form the foundation of the knife’s unique slipjoint mechanism. Long machined slots at the top of each handle scale create integral spring arms that are connected by a hardened pin. When the blade is open, this pin applies pressure on the tang of the blade to stabilize it in the open position.
The PITS Folder’s broad, full-flat-ground, clip-point blade is made from Böhler-Uddeholm N690Co steel—a chromium steel enhanced with cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium alloys. It features an integral guard at the base of the edge to protect the user’s hand and help prevent unintentional closure during use. Its Trademark Round Hole™ allows swift one-handed opening and together with the handle’s reversible deep-pocket wire clip make both carry and operation of the knife completely ambidextrous.
One of the most capable non-locking folders ever produced, the PITS Folder is a socially friendly, legally permissible knife that offers serious cutting performance.
